Jikokuten originated as a college sculpting project in 2017, the temple environment was added later in 2018. This temple was heavily inspired by Kiyomizu-dera temple in Kyoto. The fire effects were done using a Maya fluid simulation. The environment was modeled in Maya and textured in Photoshop. The final piece was rendered in Arnold with final compositing in Nuke.

Statue Sculpt

The central statue depicts Jikokuten, a Japanese Buddhist mandala. The sculpt is based off of a Heian era wood sculpture in Toji temple. It was sculpted in ZBrush with retopology in Maya and texturing in Mari.
